Kipino participated in his first real race
At RRL, we believe in the power of running to make dreams come true. Our mission extends beyond just creating high-quality running gear; we strive to make a positive impact on the communities we touch. One of our proudest achievements has been supporting Kipino, a passionate runner from the Mt. Suswa area in Kenya, through the sale of our RRL club t-shirts.
Supporting Local Dreams
For most of us, participating in a running race is a common activity. We select races from the calendar and enjoy the thrill of competition. However, for many in developing regions, the opportunity to participate in a race is a luxury they can’t afford. This was the case for Kipino, a dedicated runner with dreams of joining Kenyan athletes and representing his country.
Meeting Kipino
During a trip to Mt. Suswa, a breathtaking area just a three-hour drive from Nairobi, we met Kipino. His enthusiasm and passion for running were immediately evident. Kipino lives in the Mt. Suswa area and loves to run with visitors, whether it’s a short jog or a challenging half marathon around the crater, boasting an elevation difference of 1400 meters. Despite his talent and dedication, financial constraints had prevented him from participating in official races.
The RAIFIKI T-Shirt Campaign
Determined to help Kipino achieve his dream, we launched a campaign to sell our RAIFIKI club t-shirts. Each t-shirt sold for €28, with an additional €4.10 for shipping. Our goal was clear: sell 25 t-shirts to raise the necessary €500 to cover the costs for Kipino and a friend to participate in their first official race. The trip costs €250 per person, including travel, accommodation, and race entry fees.
Achieving Our Goal
Thanks to the incredible support from our community, we reached our target within 12 days. By December 31, 2021, we had sold 25 RAIFIKI club t-shirts, securing the funds needed for Kipino and his friend to participate in their first race. This achievement was more than just a financial milestone; it was a testament to the power of community and the impact of collective efforts.
The Impact of Participation
For Kipino, participating in an official race was a dream come true. It provided him with a platform to showcase his talent, gain recognition, and build confidence. The experience also inspired other local runners and highlighted the importance of supporting athletes from underprivileged backgrounds. Kipino’s participation in the race not only fulfilled his personal dream but also created a ripple effect of motivation and hope within his community.
